“Should the animals be used for scientific experiments or research?”

Nowadays animals are used for inhuman scientific experiments. Animals are living beings that have feelings, thoughts and the same opportunity to live as humans; for that reason, to experiment with them is a cruel activity. Unfortunately at this time, these kinds of experiments are very common and are increasing every day. Most of people see this event as something normal or a good way to test those experiments and to improve our lives in aspects of health and technology. On the other hand there are some associations that are against ofsituation and they try to stop it but it is not easy.

Science uses animals to experiment even though it is a cruel activity. According to The Animal Welfar Act (AWA) ten millions of animals are used every year in different kinds of experiments(http://www.answers.com/topic/animal). All kind of animals are used for this inhuman activity such as: rats, mice, pigs, dogs, cats, rabbits, chimpanzees and farm animals. In the handbook of the laboratory animal science volume II (1998) the authors state “animals are used for different types of experiments for example: genetic modification, models of humans diseases, for transplanting tissues or organs from one specie to another, for testing drugs, vaccines or medicines, for cosmetic testing etc. As you can see there are a lot of excuses or reasons to use animals for scientific experiments but it does not appeared to be something relevant. On another hand, according with a study “ some people think that the use of animals is good because in this way Scientifics can test and study the side effects of medicines so that it is safe to use on humans” (animals abuse n.d)

Animals suffer an inhuman treatment during the time when they are exposed to experiments. A general study mentioned that “some kinds of experiments required that animals do not have any substance in their blood; for that reason, Scientifics do not inject them any drug to reduce the pain” (animal testing n.d). It means that during all the experiment process animals are suffering a lot. Some of the animals die before than the experiment finishes because they do not resist the pain. In addition, animals are in cages before the experiment or after that and some of the cages are not appropriate to the size or weight of the animals; consequently, they cannot move enough. Also another aspect is than in some cases Scientifics do not feed the animals because they need animals without food for experiments or simply because it does not care for them and the only thing that is important for them is that the experiment has good result. However, some people argue that animal’s experiments are necessary to find cures for human diseases or something that help humans in different ways (animals´ experimentation n. d)



Some experiments do not have good results or are not ready to be testing in animals. Experiments are made in different animasl in order to prove if all of them have the same reaction. If the Scientifics do not have good results they change the elements or the procedure of the experiment and after that they test it again on different animals. Some of the animals that are the result of wrong experiments are murdered or are used for another type of experiments , it depends of the consequences that they suffered during the previous experiment. Also Scientifics make experiments of all the things that they want because they have all the animals that they need to do it. It is not essential if the experiment is complete or not because they do not care the animals that they have to use to achieve the experiment. In contrary, some people think that if the experiment is testing in more animals the results would be better and they will not fail (animal experimentation n.d).

As a conclusion, the use of animals for experimentation is a cruel and inhuman situation. During the time when animals are exposed to those experiments they receive an inhuman treatment and some of them are murdered when the experiment is wrong or when it finishes. There are some people that believe that these kind of experimentations have a lot of advantages that can help us but they are forgetting that animals are living beings that have the same opportunity to live as humans and if we do not kill another human to experiment and help the science why do we have to kill animals to do that?.
